How to download your resume from LinkedIn (3 ways)

By the Presr team ·

“Download my resume from LinkedIn” can mean three different files: your profile saved as a PDF, a resume you uploaded to LinkedIn when you applied for jobs, or an actual resume made from your profile. Here’s how to get each one, and which one to send an employer.

The short version.

  • Your profile as a PDF: on a computer, open your profile, click More, then Save to PDF. You get LinkedIn’s layout, which you can’t edit.
  • A resume you uploaded to an application: Settings & Privacy, then Data privacy, then Job application settings.
  • A resume you can send: build it from your profile, edit it for the job, and download it as a PDF or Word file.

1. Save your LinkedIn profile as a PDF

LinkedIn has a built-in export for any profile you can view, your own included:

  1. On a computer, go to linkedin.com and open your profile.
  2. Click More, the button beside “Open to” under your name. On some layouts it’s called Resources.
  3. Choose Save to PDF. The file downloads in a few seconds.

Save to PDF is on LinkedIn’s desktop site. What you get is a printout of your profile: LinkedIn’s own layout, every section in LinkedIn’s order, and no way to change the design or the wording without retyping it somewhere else. It’s a good record of your profile, and rarely what you want to attach to an application.

2. Find a resume you uploaded to LinkedIn

When you apply for jobs on LinkedIn with a resume file, LinkedIn keeps the file so you can use it again. To see, download or delete those files:

  1. Click Me at the top of LinkedIn, then Settings & Privacy.
  2. Open Data privacy, and under job seeking, choose Job application settings.
  3. Your saved resumes are listed there, with options to download or delete each one.

These files aren’t shown on your profile. A resume attached to an application goes to the employer you applied to.

3. Build a real resume from your profile

To download a resume rather than a profile printout, turn the profile into one first. A LinkedIn resume builder does that without retyping. With Presr, a Chrome extension:

  1. Open your LinkedIn profile in Chrome, then open Presr in the side panel and press Sync this profile.
  2. Scroll the profile to the bottom. Presr reads each section as it comes into view, and never scrolls or types for you.
  3. Press Build resume. Edit anything, pick one of 11 templates, and download a PDF or Word file.

The free plan builds from your own profile with 1 download and no account. Your resumes stay in your browser, not on a server. For the other ways to do it by hand, see how to turn your LinkedIn profile into a resume.

Getting all your LinkedIn data

LinkedIn can also send you an archive of your account: Settings & Privacy, then Data privacy, then Get a copy of your data. LinkedIn emails you when it’s ready. It holds your profile, connections and more as data files, useful as a backup, not as a resume.
