A free job application tracker, beside your resume
Save a posting from LinkedIn with one click, or paste one from anywhere. Mark each job saved, applied, interviewing or closed, and match your resume to the one you’re applying for.
What a job application tracker is. One list of the jobs you’re applying to and where each one stands, so nothing gets lost between finding a posting and hearing back.
- Saving a job: Save this job in Presr’s side panel on a LinkedIn job page keeps the whole posting, not just a link. A posting from any other site is pasted in.
- Tracking it: four statuses, saved, applied, interviewing and closed, with search and a filter for each.
- Using it: check your resume against a saved posting, see which of its skills you show, and tailor the resume to it.
- The plans: saving and tracking are free, with no account. Matching and tailoring are AI, on Plus ($6.99 a week, $14.99 a month or $34.99 for 3 months) and Pro.
- Your data: saved jobs stay in your browser, in the extension, until you delete them. A deleted posting waits 30 days in Recently deleted.
How it works
-
Save the job
On a LinkedIn job page, open Presr in the side panel and press Save this job. Presr opens the full description, the way you would, and keeps it. For a job anywhere else, copy the posting and paste it into the Jobs tab.
-
Track it
Every posting starts as Saved. Click its status to move it on, to Applied, Interviewing and Closed, or use Change status in its menu. Search the list, or filter it by status.
-
Apply with the right resume
Pick a saved posting in the builder’s Match tab to check your resume against it, then tailor it to the job description.
A job application tracker template (Excel or Google Sheets)
Prefer a spreadsheet? These columns cover what you’ll need to follow up, and nothing more. Make one row per job.
| Column | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Company | The employer, as the posting names it |
| Role | The job title from the posting |
| Link | The posting’s address |
| Posting text | The description itself, pasted in: postings come down |
| Status | Saved, Applied, Interviewing or Closed (a drop-down keeps it consistent) |
| Date applied | The day you sent it |
| Resume sent | The file name of the version you used |
| Contact | The recruiter or hiring manager, if you have a name |
| Next step | What happens next, and when: “Follow up on the 14th” |
| Notes | Salary range, interview questions, anything worth remembering |
In Google Sheets or Excel, make Status a drop-down (Data, then Data validation) and sort by Next step each week.
How to track job applications well
- Save the posting, not only the link. Postings are often taken down once the role is filled, and you’ll want the text before an interview.
- Note which resume you sent. If you tailor each one, you need to know what the interviewer is holding.
- Update the status the same day. A tracker that’s a week behind stops being used.
- Review it once a week. Follow up on anything that has gone quiet, and close what’s over.
Questions about tracking job applications
What is a job application tracker?
A list of the jobs you’re applying to and where each one stands: saved, applied, interviewing or closed, with the posting, the date and your notes. It can be a spreadsheet, a notes app or a tool like Presr that saves the posting for you.
Is there a free job tracker?
Yes. A spreadsheet is free, and so is Presr’s job tracker: saving postings, statuses, search and filters work on the free plan, with no account, and so is a keyword match score against a saved posting. The full AI check and tailoring are part of Plus and Pro.
How can I track my job application status?
Give every application one status and change it the day something happens: saved when you find it, applied when you send it, interviewing when they reply, closed when it ends. In Presr, a click on the status moves it to the next one.
What is the most effective way to track job applications?
Keep the posting itself, not just the link, since postings come down after a few weeks. Record the date you applied and the resume you sent, keep one status per job, and look at the list once a week to follow up on anything that has gone quiet.
Can I track job applications on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn’s My Jobs page lists the jobs you saved and applied to on LinkedIn. It doesn’t include jobs from other sites, and you can’t mark one as interviewing or closed. Presr keeps postings from LinkedIn and anywhere else in one list, with a status for each.
Where does Presr keep my saved jobs?
In your browser, in the Presr extension, beside your resumes. They’re kept until you delete them; a deleted posting waits 30 days in Recently deleted, where you can restore it.
